Dolphin is commonly seen on our shores and once you have your first sighting many seek a interactive dolphin experience and Anna Maria Island has some epic dolphin tours. Then there are dolphin experiences, these run at a higher ticket price of course and are not as abundantly

offered as the dolphin tours. Dolphins typically travel in a posse’, grow to be 5-8ft and are actually a mammal-relying on a natural air supply and nursing they’re little dolphin babies (cue the “awwwwwwe’s”), which they have about every 2-3 years, they can even have twins! They eat about  30lb’s of fish each year and the dolphin tours usually come prepared with their favorites for you to throw. Calving season from Florida runs late April to May, since dolphins like to give birth in shallow water’s spotting of the whole am are frequent during this time of year-head over to the beach today and see if you can catch a glimpse of our favorite Florida mammal! Anna Maria Island Vacation Day Trips

Anna Maria Island is centrally located to many of the popular Florida destination spots. A day trip is a great way to break up vacation monotony or to infuse it with new experience and maximize your time in the Sunshine State! Florida has many different city areas that you can visit for the day and the atmosphere is such a contrast from one to the next. Visit Tampa or Orlando if you’re missing the city, head to Treasure Island for a late night on a lively coastal town, go inland to St. Pete for urban eats or visit Davis Island/Bayshore Blvd. and check out stunning architecture. Our list will highlight the areas worth venturing and we’re sure whichever you pick will only add to the beautiful memories and you may just discover a new Florida Favorite for your next vacation!

Sarasota is the closest day trip option to Anna Maria City worth visiting, the beaches there are superb. Siesta key has renowned sand quality, the city imports what is mostly finely ground quartz from the Appalachian Mountains to keep your feet cool and the beach enjoyable to stroll in the summer. Apart from the beach Siesta Key has a great town area which is walking distance from the beach, fabulous food and nightlife keep the island fueled with fun! Longboat Key is another great Sarasota area, a resort town with gigantic pristine golf courses accompanied by a lot of tennis enthusiast make Longboat Key well known among luxury travelers and boaters. The city of Sarasota has inland attractions as well, the Ringling Museum features a circus museum, private gallery and mansion open to guest. The Van Weezel performance center always has someone great headlining a show, from Julia Hough to Barbara Streisand. Children and families of all ages will adore Sarasota Jungle Gardens, a small zoo experience where you can hand feed friendly flamingos, see exotic birds, gigantic alligators, humongous snakes, monkeys and gorgeous gardens. If the mention of gardens excited you then Selby Botanical Gardens is the place to visit for you, the curated garden is the only one like it in America, showcasing epiphytes and beautiful canopy ecosystems, festivals and events are constantly underway and the garden is a truly magical escape! Last on our list is Mote Marine, an interactive experience where you can observe, learn and touch some of the areas local wildlife including dolphins, manatees, sharks and more!

The City of Tampa is less than an hour away, an easy travelling distance to visit top US theme parks like Bush Gardens, Adventure Island and the MOSI Museum of Science and Industry. Tampa is a bustling city, the best areas to tour would be Channel Side which features the expansive Florida Aquarium, the Lightning Bolts Hockey Arena, a IMAX movie theater and lots of food options including a Wet Willie’s. Ybor City is a short 10 minute distance from the previous suggestion and gives you an amazing feel for what old Tampa was like during the cigar trade era as the area is filled with restored old cigar shops and children’s factories, mixed in with high end vintage thrift stores and new age boutiques, at night time Ybor is THE city center for night life.  If you’re in town during January check out the festive Gasparilla parades and grab some beads, if it’s Halloween attend Guavaween and dance the night away in your spookiest apparel. Then there is Bayshore Blvd. which is adjacent to Davis Island is a beautiful area, take a drive or bike along the bay and observe the stunning architecture on Florida mansions. Tampa Bay also has a Hard Rock Casino, Top Golf and Lowery Park Zoo!

Another hour north will take you to Orlando to the famed home of Disney World where you can visit the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, the Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, Blizzard Beach and Disney Typhoon Water Park! Islands of Adventure and Aquatica are just next door and Orlando also offers Downtown Disney for shopping and dining. Outside of the theme park area there is Old Town where the carnival rides sparkle year round, the Orlando Ice Rink (probably the only place to find ice or temperatures lower than 70 in Orlando) and an indoor sky diving facility!

Weeki Wachee Springs

About two hours North is Weeki WacheeIMG_0532
Springs, a great day trip to check out a natural spring (way different than salt water beaches) with amazingly clear visibility and a lazy river! The mermaid show is a famous production (featured on The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie) and the other half of the park known as Buccaneer Bay has big water slides, life guards, atiki-hut for children or adult drinks, several boutiques and a dive dock. The surrounding area also has movie theaters, bowling and skating rinks for your standard family activities.

Egmont Key

A refuge that can only be reached by boat, this hidden little island is a paradise found for snorkelers, scuba divers and nature lovers. The island is 44 acres and you can ferry over from the Ft. Desoto Park area, once on the island you will be on your own (unless a tour is booked), there are no shops or restaurants, the island is completely natural with only a single standing light house, old fort ruins and under water sunken ruins that are a draw for scuba divers, snorkelers and marine life! Make sure to pack a lunch, bring your sunscreen and a camera, Egmont Key is an island like no other!

St. Pete

St. Pete is an up and coming town just a half hour North of Anna Maria Island. The drive over is beautiful itself, you’ll be surrounded by the Tampa Bay and get to drive over the colossal Skyway Bridge. The downtown area is broken off into two parts, there is downtown St. Pete and then there is downtown St. Pete by the water. Downtown St. Pete is perfect for grabbing a bite to eat and strolling the area, at night the city is alive with live music and lots of late night pubs. Downtown by the water is more upscale, the Vinoy hotel decorates the water front which is laden with yachts and massive sail boats at the adjacent marina with restaurants and boutique hotels on “the strip”. Vinoy Park is beautifully landscaped and during the day full of frolicking pet owners and people jogging along the bay. During concert season Vinoy Park serves as a beautiful gigantic field that hosts things like Warped Tour, Rib Fest, Jazz festivals and more. Cool things in the area to visit include the Chihuly Art Gallery & Hot Glass Shop, The Dali Museum and the overall St. Pete art scene-it’s amazing. Downtown will feature huge urban murals (many are winners of street art contest) which is intermixed with an array of galleries lining the downtown area.  Last but not least is the Tampa Bay Rays stadium which is a draw in itself, The Ray baseball team won the 2008 World Series and if it happens to be season then attending a game is a must, they also have a great annual calendar with awesome events and a summer series which featured names like Steve Aoki and Kacey Musgraves in 2016!

A 3 hour trip South will take you to the Everglades of Florida and this would definitely be a recommendation for adults only or very mature children as the area is fascinating yet full of dangerous wild life so all guidelines must be strictly adhered to for safety precautions. That being said the everglades is a place like no other, go on an air boat tour, see alligators and pythons up close! The Ernest Coe visitors center is a great place for any nature lovers in the group, full of interactive exhibits and area information. The Shark Valley Park is a one stop destination, they have bike trails (keep an eye out for alligator crossing signs), a observatory tower and tram tour. The everglades is again perfect for nature lovers and trail blazers, our list is just the tip of the iceberg with the available parks to explore in the area!

Why You Should Move To Anna Maria Island, FL – A Guide To Investing, Retiring and Purchasing a Vacation Rental

Nostalgic for old Florida without the outdated bungalow and barefoot pedestrian aspect that typically accompanies vintage Florida beach towns? Anna Maria Island is a haven for beach lovers looking for modern pastel cottages, upscale boutiques, nationally recognized restaurants and uncommercialized beaches where you can enjoy 7 miles of powder white shore. Imagine a coastline free of looming high rises, unshadowed by towering hotels with small and cozy streets, passing smiling bicyclist making their way to pristinly preserved nature trails and happy families trotting to the beach.  Anna Maria Island is a 7 mile island with 3 municipals: Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria City.  Each town thrives and city progression is fueled by the steadfast tourist industry that has made Anna Maria Island a top destination spot both within the US and abroad. The island offers a wealth of opportunity for a variety of those seeking relocation here on AMI, business here enjoy quick and steady success from the food industry to small retail chains. Places like The Donut Experiment opened in 2012 and now enjoy multiple franchises along the east coast and unique niche stores do equally well like Olive Oil Outpost who’s been on Pine Avenue for nearly a decade (a very in demand and upscale boutique strip in Anna Maria City). Home owners who purchase here enjoy either year-round accessibility whilst living on one of America’s #1 beaches; part time residents enjoy a fruitful vacation rental industry and beautifully built beach houses to invest in. Below we’ll categorize the most popular reasons people consider relocating the AMI and highlight the advantages to being an Anna Maria Island home owner:

 Full Time Resident:

Residents looking to relocate full term can look forward to enjoying an amiable communal environment and extensive on-island accessibility including an A-rated school, community center, banking options, grocery stores, pharmacies, fitness centers, summer camps, after school care, and a federally rated 5 star off island hospital (Sarasota).

Why it’s smart financially:

For starters Florida has no state income tax, no state death tax and no estate tax. Then there are the protections to your residence implemented by the Florida Homestead Act (protections against creditors & lean holders), Florida “Save Our Home” act (tax & exemption protections) and the Tenancy by the Entirety (joint ownership protections). Smaller financial advantages to factor in is all of the saved cost from the lack of snow, residents here do not need to budget for preparations for freezing temperatures nor need to worry about impact to work due to snow.

Purchasing A Future Retirement Home

Florida, for reasons cited above, is a smart and luxurious state to choose to retire in. What better location is there to clear your schedule and stick your toes in the sand? Anna Maria Island is a retiree’s paradise with a fabulous golf community, yacht marinas, sail boat yards, low speedways, a pristinely maintained community, A-rated shorelines, free island transportation (separate of the in-town county) and a conveniently small radius with everything you could need.

Why it’s smart financially:

Buying is always cheaper then renting, purchasing a home for your retirement is way more lucrative then renting a home in your destination of choice. Florida is sans retirement tax or tax to your social security benefits nor or there any inheritance tax and as cited above no state tax! If those saving aren’t enough to set your sights on the sunshine state then add in the promising revenue you’ll obtain from using your future retirement home as a vacation rental. Anna Maria Island has an extremely lucrative vacation rental industry, a high and consistent price point with exclusive availability in its small radius of tropical allure. Preparation is key, advance purchase of a home you intend to turn into your primary residence is most beneficial in the long run, with enough preparation and proper execution you can finance a vacation rental into a retirement home that has paid for itself by the time your ready to pack your bags and head to the beach!

Investment Property: Vacation or Annual

Anna Maria Island is a lucky find for those looking to invest in a rental property. Florida is a destination spot in itself and Anna Maria tops the charts for Florida travel. Secluded beaches, elegant shopping districts, and top notch eateries make the Gulf Coast an effortless destination spot and Anna Maria Island attracts an upscale and loyal travel crowd. With the area being such a cosmopolitan of world class travelers the tourism season spans the entire year, January – April is when home owners see the highest revenue and the remainder of the year never declines to the extent of some neighboring destination spots like Orlando who can experience 50% decrease in their off season market.

Why it’s smart financially:

Vacation Rentals are so lucrative they have become the majority on the island. High end investors from around the world look to obtain their very own piece of paradise and do so confidently knowing beach homes are preferable in an area with sparse beach resorts with bookable rooms. The majority of the rentable accommodations are privately owned whether it be in a water front condo community or in a family home and with the island being only 1 mile wide at most you’re home is always a short walk to the ocean.  A high number of management companies provide competitive rates if your not local and the family friendly environment and lack of bustling night life minimize the wear and tear on your investment property as opposed to other beach hot spots like Miami, FL. Annual rentals are in demand and hard to come by, a quick inquiry with any of the rental companies will provide you with possibly 1 or 2 available options if your lucky, so home owners who put their property on the annual market usually have a list of inquiries before the ink on the add has a chance to dry. Though the revenue may not be as high as with the weekly or monthly rentals, annuals still provide a generous monthly income (the average 1 bedroom has a monthly price of over $1,000) and are great for property owners who are looking to accrue revenue for future renovations or who want to wait to renovate prior to inhabiting the home.

Extreme Watersports On Anna Maria Island

What makes the perfect setting to try out a new water sport? High water visibility, gentle tides, warm temperatures, and a nice padded shoreline would be ideal; Anna Maria checks out for all of the above and is an amazing destination choice to try all the new extreme water sports that are coming out in droves each year. New more extreme water sports include jet pack hydroflying, flyboarding, flybiking, wind surfing, kiteboarding, electric jetboarding, subscooters, seabobs and classics like blob jumping, jetskiing, water skiing, wake boarding, parasailing, catamarans, and deep sea fishing charters. The Gulf of Mexico has crystal clear water perfect for jetski’s, seabobs, subscooters, parasailing and catamarans. The Tampa Bay is your place to catch big game fish if you try out a deep sea fishing charter, bonus points for taking it to one of the local marina’s and having them turn your catch of the day into your meal of the night-SeaFood Shack and Starfish Seafood Shack both oblige. Anna Maria Sound and Palma Sola are where most go to try out jetpack hydroflying, electric jet boarding, wake boarding, water skiing and though we have not spotted a jumping blob just yet it would be a perfect addition to the myriad of water sports you can observe or try yourself along the Manatee Avenue causeway. If you are looking to test the waters out for yourself, we’ve listen some of the local water sports that you can schedule right here on The Island:

Ever wonder what it’s like to be propelled above the ocean water by a sweet new age jetpack? Flyboarding is just that, a hydropumped jetpack slowly soars you above the water as it’s powered by the jetski used to take you out into the water. The trick to this is mastering the art of hovering once your up!

PRO TRIP: Get the most bang for your buck by booking something at a group rate, it will take a few times before you get the hang of balancing yourself so a half day is the way to go, by the end of it you may be practiced enough to spin a mid-air summersault or two!

TOP GUN FLYBOARDING: (941) 565-1727

Parasailing is essentially a giant parachute that is secured to a harness swing and the rider,  a boat then pulls the parasail as it towers over the open water providing surreal arial views. Parasailing tickets are bought by the height, usually varying from 500-1200 ft.

PRO TIP: Buy or rent a go pro, you can attach it to pretty much anything sturdy enough to hold the small video camera- helmets, the harness or hand hold to capture some amazing footage to remember your trip!

YOLO ADVENTURES: (941) 792-6000

Wind Surfing

Love sailing and always wanted to try surfing? Wind surfing may be your niche. This sport combines the two, a small sail powers you atop the waterline as your standing on the attached surfboard-like base. While this sport has been big overseas row awhile now it is just making it’s splash in the US.

PRO TRIP: The bigger the board the better for beginners, start practicing accordingly and advance to a smaller board once your ready to set sail with the pro’s!

√ NORTH BEACH WINDSURFING:  (727) 656-6569

Water Skiing

This one is easy to picture, a pair of ski’s allow you to coast along the waterline while holding on the a handle and lead-line being towed by a boat or jetski. We can’t promise it’s any easier than real skiing though!

PRO TRIP: Wear a watersuite, beginners are bound to have their fare share of belly flops, minimize on the sting by renting or purchasing a suite!

THE JET SKI STORE: (727) 329-8940

It’s kind of like a sailboat but with 2 hulls, a catamaran is similar to use as well. Guided by the wind and great for the open water’s of Anna Maria Island, catamarans are a common enough rental to find along the beach. Most of the bases are mesh, ideal for laying out once you sail to a cozy enough spot on the water though you may find a cabin area in more luxurious models.

PRO TRIP: Bring sunscreen, (hats may fly off depending on the wind)eyewear and sunscreen are a must as you could be going into the direction of the sunlight and you’ll need to see to navigate. Bring the sunscreen to prevent getting a burn since this is a longer activity and your completely exposed to the sun on the open water.

COASTAL WATERSPORTS :                           (941) 778-4969

Electronic Jet Surfing

Surfing made easy, this new water sport eliminates the need to paddle out to catch your wave. Rent one of these and cruise over to ride the surf or just cruise around the waterline as if you were using a water safe hoverboard.

PRO TRIP: Dress the same as you would for surfing, though a wetsuit is not needed in our warm waters you may get chilly if it’s windy and your zipping along the Gulf of Mexico!

√ ADVENTURE AWAY: (844) 522-6654

Deep Sea Fishing Charter

If your visiting an island you can’t go home without an epic fishing story and Anna Maria has no shortage of available charters! Miles out and under the experienced care of a captain you’ll get to do what inspires so many to visit our beaches-dropping anchor, casting you’re line, opening a cold beverage and relaxing on the Tampa Bay while you wait for dinner to swim along is the ideal lifestyle that helped found Anna Maria Island.

PRO TRIP: Bring a bag for your fish and save on a added fee, be prepared for 30-45 minutes of travel time while you get out to a spot to bait and cast your lines, listen to the crew when they instruct (it matters) and last but not least make sure to pack minimally (less is more)…eyewear, hats and boat shoes are a must!

√ CORTEZ DEEP SEA FISHING:  (941) 346-3000
